New Delhi: International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said that India is among the many countries that are keen to host the Olympics in 2036, 2040, and beyond. The IOC recently announced that Brisbane would host the 2032 Olympics. Bach was quoted in the ‘Wall Street General’ news as saying that despite Australia’s Brisbane being selected to host the 2032 Games last month, the IOC still has countries interested in hosting 2036, 2040, and subsequent Olympic Games. ‘s queue.

According to the news, countries willing to host include Indonesia, India, Germany, and Qatar. The Wall Street General quoted Bach as saying, “And these are just the names that come to my mind. So we are in a very good long-term position.”

Bach’s remarks come at a time when debates are raging over the holding of the Games due to the rising costs of millions of dollars. During the recently concluded Tokyo Games, there were protests over the money spent to host the Olympics.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) general secretary Rajeev Mehta confirmed to PTI that they have shown interest in hosting the Games’ Maha Kumbh. Mehta said, “In the IOA Commission meeting through video conference before the Tokyo Olympics, the IOA had expressed its desire to host the Olympics in 2036 and beyond.”

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said in March this year that he would do everything possible and improve the infrastructure for the successful bidding of the 2048 Games to mark 100 years of independence. India had also expressed its desire to host the 2032 Olympics. India was also keen to host the 2030 Asian Games and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The Asian Games 2030 and 2034 were handed over to Qatar and Riyadh respectively in December.
