
Patna: Under the first phase of Bihar Assembly Election 2020, 53.54 percent voting has taken place in 71 assembly seats of 16 districts of the state till 6 pm. This has been informed by the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora. While the fate of a total of 1066 candidates who are trying their luck in this election of the first phase has been captured in the EVM, including 114 women candidates. Not only that, in the first phase of polling, there were 35 sensitive or highly sensitive areas. While paramilitary personnel were deployed at all the polling stations for fair and peaceful polling, 31,380-31,380 sets of EVMs and VVPATs were arranged for a total of 31380 polling stations.

Record turnout in Banka
In the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections, 53.54 per cent voting has taken place till 6 pm, in which Banka remained at the top with 59.57 per cent voting. Apart from this 54.20 per cent in Bhagalpur, 55.44 per cent in Lakhisarai, 55.96 per cent in Sheikhpura, 52.51 per cent in Patna, 47.36 per cent in Munger, 48.29 per cent in Bhojpur, 54.7 per cent in Buxar, 56.20 per cent in Kaimur, 52.34 per cent in Nawada, 49.59 per cent in Rohtas, 53.85 per cent in Arwal and Jehanabad. The turnout was 53.93 per cent, 52.85 per cent in Aurangabad, 57.5 per cent in Gaya and 57.41 per cent in Jamui.
The fortunes of these veterans are locked in EVMs
Among the major political parties in the Bihar elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party JDU has fielded its candidates in 35 out of 71 seats, followed by the allied BJP in 29 seats. While RJD fielded its candidates in 42 and 20 assembly constituencies by its ally Congress. Chirag Paswan, the son of Lok Janshakti Party chief and late Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, is contesting 41 out of these 71 seats, severing ties with the JDU, which is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Among the major candidates whose fate was decided in the EVM is Commonwealth Games gold medalist in shooting, Shreyasi Singh, who is trying her luck as a BJP candidate from Jamui at the age of 27. His opponent is Vijay Prakash Yadav of RJD.
Also in the state cabinet are Prem Kumar (Gaya Town), Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai), Ram Narayan Mandal (Banka), Krishnanandan Prasad Verma (Jehanabad), Jai Kumar Singh (Dinara) and Santosh Kumar Nirala (Rajpur). Bhagya was imprisoned in EVM today in the election of. Of these, Verma, Singh and Nirala belong to the JDU, while others belong to the BJP. Not only this, in Imamganj seat, the president of Hindustani Awam Morcha and former Chief Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi is contesting against RJD candidate and former Speaker of the Assembly Uday Narayan Chaudhary.
