Srinagar: In a tragic and audacious terrorist attack on Sunday evening, militants ambushed a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists opened fire on the bus, causing it to plunge into a ditch. This horrifying incident resulted in the deaths of nine people, including three women, and left 33 others injured.

The driver of the bus displayed remarkable bravery by continuing to drive at high speed in an attempt to escape the attackers. Despite his efforts, he was shot, leading to a loss of control and the eventual crash of the bus into a ditch. His courage likely prevented a larger massacre, as his actions allowed many passengers to escape with injuries rather than fatalities.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Mohita Sharma, provided an initial report on the attack. According to Sharma, the bus, en route from Shiv Khodi to Katra, came under ambush by terrorists. The rescue operation, now concluded, confirmed nine fatalities and 33 injured individuals, who have been transported to various hospitals for treatment. Tragically, the heroic bus driver is among those who lost their lives.

Investigation and Search Operations

In the aftermath of the attack, security forces have intensified their efforts to capture the perpetrators. Sources reveal that masked terrorists, disguised in army uniforms, carried out the ambush and subsequently fled into the surrounding forest. A comprehensive search operation, utilizing drones and forensic teams, is underway to locate the assailants. The challenging terrain of the desolate forest area complicates the search, necessitating the use of advanced technology.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been tasked with investigating the attack. A senior SP-level officer and a forensic team from NIA are en route to the site to commence their inquiry.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the “cowardly terrorist attack” and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He assured that a joint operation by the security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police is actively pursuing the terrorists involved. “Those behind the attack will not be spared,” he vowed, reflecting the determination of the authorities to bring the culprits to justice.
