Bhopal: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers in 21 districts of Madhya Pradesh. At least eight districts of the state received heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) while Singrauli in eastern Madhya Pradesh recorded very heavy rainfall (123 mm) during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, an official said. According to IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by thundershowers in Sagar, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Panna, Niwari, Rewa, Satna, Anuppur, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Betul, Dhar, and Narsinghpur districts. Heavy rain (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) may occur. PK Saha, the senior meteorologist at IMD’s Bhopal office, said the alert is valid till Friday morning.

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain or thundershower at most places in 10 divisions of the state including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. For the second time this month, it is raining in Madhya Pradesh. For the first time in the northern part of the state, there was destruction due to rain in Gwalior and Chambal divisions, in which 24 people died.

Saha said that the monsoon is now passing through Gwalior and Sidhi which is bringing moisture and rain. The rain is expected to continue for the next two to three days.
