Bengaluru: In many parts of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, there was heavy rain with hailstorms and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon. Severe water logging was observed in many parts of the city. Also, trees were uprooted in many areas. An old building in the city collapsed following heavy rains at Vidyaranyapura in the city. There is no information about any casualty. Rescue work is on. A 23-year-old woman died in the water-filled underpass.

According to the information received, the members of a family traveling in a car stuck there due to water logging in the KR Circle underpass after heavy rains were rescued by the fire brigade and emergency service personnel. However, a woman in the car was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah took stock of the damage caused by heavy rains in Bengaluru and condoled the death of a 23-year-old woman who drowned in a waterlogged underpass in the city’s KR Circle area.

According to sources, a family of six from Hyderabad was traveling in a car amid heavy rain and hailstorm on Sunday afternoon. Without realizing the water level in the underpass, the car driver tried to move forward but midway the car was almost submerged.

In a hurry, the people sitting in the car came out to save themselves. Due to the rain, the water level started rising. As the family members raised an alarm for help, people from nearby came forward to rescue them. People tried to get them out of there with the help of sarees and ropes.

Sources said the trapped people tried to escape but were unsuccessful. Two of them were pulled out by emergency services personnel, while the others were brought out using a ladder.
