Ujjain: In a somber turn of events, Poonamchand Yadav, the father of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, passed away today at the age of 100. Poonamchand Yadav had been battling illness for a week and was admitted to the hospital, where he breathed his last.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and his son Maha Aryaman Scindia, who were in Ujjain a day earlier, visited the hospital to check on his health. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also spent time with his father on Sunday, showing the deep bond between them.
A Life of Struggle and Perseverance
Poonamchand Yadav’s life was marked by resilience and hard work. Originally from Ratlam, he moved to Ujjain and initially worked in a diamond mill. He later established a Bhajiya shop in Malipura and a Dal-Bafla shop in Freeganj. Even at the age of 100, he was known to personally visit the market to sell his produce, embodying a spirit of dedication and self-reliance.
He was a devoted father who ensured his children received a good education. His sons, Nandu, Narayan, and Mohan Yadav, and daughters, Kalavati and Shanti Devi, all benefited from his unwavering commitment to their upbringing.

As soon as the news of his father’s passing reached him, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav left State Hangar Bhopal to be with his family. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan expressed his condolences on Twitter, stating, “The loss of a father’s shadow is irreparable in life. The respected father may not be with you physically, but the shadow of his blessings is always with you.”
BJP state president VD Sharma also shared his grief on Twitter, calling the news “extremely sad” and describing the loss as “the biggest thunderbolt of a son’s life.” He added, “This emptiness can never be filled.”
