New Delhi: According to market intelligence company Unearthinsight, with the right policies and strategic changes, employment opportunities for physically challenged people in India can increase, and about half of them have the potential to get employment.
According to a report released by UnearthinSight, India has about 30 million physically challenged (PWD) population, of which about 13 million people are employable, but only 34 lakh of them are in the organized, unorganized sector, government-led. schemes and are employed in self-employment.
The report said, “The country has a potential workforce of 3.4 lakh non-technical graduates, polytechnic and diploma holders who can be imparted skill training to increase per capita income and be engaged in the mainstream service sector and knowledge industry. “
About 17,000 physically challenged students are graduates in engineering or computer science and related streams, of which about 8,000 are employed in the IT services sector, while software products employ about 5,500 employees.
According to the report, the technology and retail sectors are at the fore in providing skill training to physically challenged people and creating employment opportunities for them. The organized retail sector employs over 13,000 such professionals, while the technology sector has more than 8,000 such workers. The banking and financial services sector is also an emerging sector in terms of employing physically challenged people.
