Best Smartphone award at MWC 2024

Barcelona: The Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, has concluded its four-day event on March 3, 2024. Among the highlights of the event were the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO), which recognize the best achievements and innovations in the mobile sector.

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro beat the competition

The most prestigious award in the smartphone category, the ‘Best Smartphone’, went to Google’s Pixel 8 series, which consists of the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro. These devices were launched in October 2022 and have received rave reviews from critics and users alike.

The Pixel 8 series faced tough competition from other flagship smartphones, such as the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series, the Z Flip5, and the OnePlus Open. However, the judges of the GLOMO awards praised the Pixel 8 series for their “outstanding performance, innovation and leadership” in the smartphone market.

The Pixel 8 series is known for its exceptional camera capabilities, which are powered by advanced AI and computational photography. The new models feature updated camera hardware, such as a 50 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48 MP telephoto lens. They also offer generative AI-powered editing features, such as Magic Eraser, Face Unblur, and Cinematic Pan.

The Pixel 8 series also boasts a sleek design, a smooth 120 Hz display, a fast and secure fingerprint scanner, a powerful Snapdragon 888 processor, a long-lasting battery, and wireless charging. The Pixel 8 series runs on the latest Android 13 operating system, which offers exclusive features such as Hold for Me, Live Caption, and Call Screen.

This is the first time that Google has won the ‘Best Smartphone’ award at the GLOMO Awards. In the previous years, the award was dominated by Apple and Samsung. The iPhone 14 Pro won the award in 2023, the iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2022, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021.
