Google launches AI-powered search in India

New Delhi: Google has announced that it has rolled out its AI-powered search feature, called Search Generative Experience (SGE), in India and Japan this week. SGE was first introduced in May this year at Google’s annual event, Google I/O, and was initially available only in the US. SGE aims to help users understand topics faster and better, and discover new perspectives and insights.

According to a blog post by Google, SGE will enable users to see an AI-generated summary at the top of the search results, which will combine information from different sources on the web. Users will also be able to see more visual elements, such as images and graphs, in the summary. The summary will also have a language toggle feature for Indian users, who can switch between Hindi and English. Users can also listen to the response in their preferred language. Ads will be displayed in dedicated slots on the search page.

The original web pages that are used to generate the summary will still be accessible by scrolling down the summary. Users will also find the original links at the bottom of the page.

To use SGE, users have to go to Google.com and click on the Search Labs icon on the top right of the screen. A popup will appear explaining SGE and giving users the option to turn it on or off. Users can also watch a demo of SGE and give feedback to Google.
