New Delhi: Google has announced that it has removed more than 20 lakh videos from YouTube in India for violating its policies between April and June 2023. The tech giant also claimed that it has prevented scams worth about Rs 12 thousand crore on Google Pay in the last year.
According to Google’s Transparency Report, the company deleted over 20 lakh videos from its platform in India during the second quarter of 2023, following complaints from users, governments, and other sources. The videos were removed for various reasons, such as spam, misleading content, nudity, violence, hate speech, harassment, and child safety.
This is an increase from the first quarter of 2023 when Google removed over 1.9 million videos from YouTube in India for policy violations. Globally, the video-streaming giant removed more than 6.48 million videos for rule violations during the same time period.
Google also said that it has taken several measures to protect its users from frauds and scams on Google Pay, its digital payment service. The company said that it uses advanced artificial intelligence and fraud prevention technology to identify and stop suspicious transactions in real time. It also alerts users about potential frauds in their preferred language and educates them about the dos and don’ts of online payments.
As a result of these efforts, Google said that it has stopped scams worth Rs 12,000 crore on Google Pay in the last year. The company also urged users to report any fraudulent activities on its platform using the form available on its website.
