Dispur: Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has passed away at the age of 86 today. He was infected with corona. This information has been given by the Health Minister of the state Hemant Biswa Sharma.
On Monday morning, Gogoi’s health condition deteriorated further. Doctors said Gogoi’s condition was “extremely critical”. He was undergoing treatment at Guwahati Medical College (GMCH). He was admitted on November 2. On the other hand, when his condition deteriorated, he was kept on ventilator on Saturday night and many of his organs stopped working. He underwent dialysis on Sunday which lasted for six hours. Gogoi was found infected with the corona virus on October 25.
Tarun Gogoi has been the Chief Minister of Assam three times and Lok Sabha MP six times.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saddened by the demise of the former Chief Minister. He wrote on his official Twitter account, “Tarun Gogoi was a popular leader and an experienced administrator who had political experience in Assam as well as at the Center. I am saddened by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.
President Ramnath Kovind has also expressed grief over Gogoi’s demise. He wrote on his official Twitter account, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The country has lost an experienced leader with rich political and administrative experience. His long tenure in office was a time of epoch-making change in Assam. ”
The President further said, “He will always be remembered for his efforts for the development of Assam and especially for his efforts to improve law and order in the state and fight extremism. His demise symbolizes the end of an era. Condolences to his family, friends and supporters in this hour of grief. “
On Gogoi’s demise, Rahul Gandhi said, “Tarun Gogoi was a true Congress leader. He dedicated his life to bringing all the people and communities of Assam together. ”
Gandhi said, “To me, he was a great and intelligent teacher. I loved and respected her very much. I will miss him. My love and pride and condolences to the family. ”
