London: What has not happened in Britain in the last 130 years is going to happen now. Prince Harry will be the first senior member of the British royal family to testify in court. Prince Harry has accused a newspaper group of illegal behavior, he will testify at a hearing next week. Harry, the youngest son of King Charles, will testify at the High Court in London, along with more than 100 other celebrities, at the hearing of the case. The case has been registered against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), the publisher of Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Sunday People.

Earlier in 1870, Edward VII testified in a divorce case and 20 years later became a witness in a trial for slander over a card game. He also gave his testimony before becoming the king.

Harry has been in the headlines for many days
Harry, who is at number five in line to the throne, has been in the limelight for the last 6 months. Sometimes over his legal disputes with the British press, sometimes over his documentary series on Netflix, in which he accused his senior royals of colluding with tabloid newspapers. Now his presence in the court has attracted the attention of the world.

When did the trial begin
The lawsuit, which began last month, alleges MGN journalists or private investigators hired by them conducted a massive phone hack to obtain information about Prince and other claimants in the case. Asked to adopt other illegal tactics. David Sherborne, a lawyer for the claimants, says the work was done with the knowledge of senior editors and executives. At the same time, MGN has denied all these allegations and said that if anything wrong has happened, it has been hidden from them.

Harry’s biographer and journalist told the court that one of those who knew about the hacking was former editor Piers Morgan, now a high-profile broadcaster. Morgan has been an outspoken critic of the Prince and his wife, Meghan. At the same time, Morgan has denied involvement in any kind of illegal behavior. Rather, on the contrary, he has accused Prince of violating the privacy of his family. Morgan resigned as presenter of a TV breakfast show after making an outspoken comment about Meghan. Harry also accused the royal family of being involved in this conspiracy

Early in the trial, MGN’s current owner Reich apologized in court documents and admitted that on one occasion the Sunday People had illegally obtained information about Harry, for which he was entitled to compensation. Along with this, the MGN had rejected the other allegations leveled against him, arguing that he had received some information only from royal associates.

The MGN documents also reveal a story about Harry emerging when his father’s former deputy private secretary and Morgan used to have drinks together on a daily basis. Harry says that his family and his colleagues leaked negative stories about him to protect their reputation. No statement has come from the palace regarding this.
