New Delhi: OnePlus has entered the foldable phone market with its first offering, the OnePlus Open, which was launched in India on Thursday. The OnePlus Open is a result of a collaboration between OnePlus and Oppo, and it is essentially the global version of the Oppo Find N3, which was also unveiled on the same day. The OnePlus Open boasts of a powerful performance, a stunning display, and a versatile camera system, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Hasselblad-branded cameras and the Flexi Fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED screens.
The OnePlus Open comes with a price tag of Rs 1,39,999 for the sole variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The foldable phone will be available for open sale from October 27 onwards on OnePlus.in and other online and offline channels. The company is also offering some bank offers and exchange discounts for customers who want to trade in their old devices.
The OnePlus Open features a dual-screen design that allows users to switch between a 6.31-inch cover display and a 7.82-inch main display when unfolded. Both the displays have a 2K resolution, support Dolby Vision, and offer a peak brightness of 2800 nits. They also have a 120Hz refresh rate and offer a pixel density of 431 ppi. The foldable phone has a hinge mechanism that enables smooth folding and unfolding without any crease or gap.
The OnePlus Open is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm that offers improved performance, efficiency, and connectivity. The processor is paired with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, which are non-expandable. The foldable phone runs on OxygenOS 13, which is based on Android 12 and has some pre-loaded apps from Oppo. The software has been optimized for the foldable form factor and supports multi-screen functionality and seamless transitions.
The OnePlus Open sports a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 48MP primary sensor with OIS, a 48MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 64MP telephoto sensor, also with OIS. The cameras are co-engineered with Hasselblad, the renowned Swedish camera maker, and offer natural color calibration, professional modes, and cinematic effects. The cover display has a 32MP selfie camera, while the main display has a 20MP under-display camera that becomes invisible when not in use.
The OnePlus Open packs a 4805mAh battery that supports 67W fast wired charging via USB-C port. The company claims that the battery can be fully charged in just 40 minutes. However, the foldable phone does not support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging. The foldable phone also has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, an in-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-SIM support.
