New Delhi: Not on the ongoing Wrestlers Protest but now the government is going to take action. Delhi Police will file an FIR today against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India. Delhi Police has informed about this in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on Friday heard the petition filed for the demand to register an FIR against Singh. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha heard the matter. This information was given by the Delhi Police in the Supreme Court. Seven wrestlers, including a minor wrestler, have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India, of sexual exploitation.
During the hearing on the petition of the wrestlers, their lawyer Kapil Sibal said that he is also concerned about the safety of the victim girls. He said that all this is going on since 2016. The verbal complaint was made, but nothing happened. Then in January this year, when it was formally told, he said let’s make a committee. but nothing happened. At least the FIR should have been done immediately. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Delhi Police, said that this concern should be left to us. The Delhi Police Commissioner can look into all the concerns and queries in this regard. He said that the Delhi Police on its own behalf has said that they are registering an FIR.
After listening to the arguments of both parties, the Chief Justice said in the order that since there is a complaint of cognizable offense in this case, the Delhi Police has asked to register an FIR. Wrestlers’ lawyer Kapil Sibal has given an affidavit in a sealed cover, stating that he is facing a threat to the safety of the minor girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted. The court said that it directs the Delhi Police Commissioner to make arrangements for the security of the girl and also file an affidavit regarding the security provided. The matter will be heard next week.
Wrestlers’ lawyer Kapil Sibal said that there are 40 cases registered against Brij Bhushan. In such a situation, security should be given to the complainant women wrestlers. Sibal said that women wrestlers have demanded security. There are also cases of murder in these. He demanded that in such a situation, the SIT should investigate the case, which should be monitored by the former judge. On this, the CJI said that he is putting on record the statement of Delhi Police’s lawyer that an FIR will be lodged in the matter today itself.
