Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: Today (October 2) is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869. Many leaders including PM Modi-Sonia paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Bapu is remembered on this day. Gandhi Jayanti programs are held at various places including schools, colleges, and government offices. Mahatma Gandhi is also called the Father of the Nation. He was first addressed by Subhash Chandra Bose as the Father of the Nation. On 4 June 1944, while broadcasting a message from Singapore Radio, said the Father of the Nation.
Gandhi did many movements
Bapu chose the path of truth and non-violence. Following this, he took iron from the British and got freedom for the country. Mahatma Gandhi did many movements for the independence of the country including civil disobedience, and Quit India. He went on fast many times, went to jail, and also took sticks.
Albert Einstein was also influenced by Bapu
Leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela were also influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and they fought for their rights. The great scientist Albert Einstein was also influenced by Bapu. Mahatma Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Prize 5 times.
Nathuram Godse killed Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi died on 30 January 1948. Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse at Birla Bhawan in New Delhi. About 10 lakh people were walking along in Bapu’s funeral procession. More than 15 lakh people stood in the way.
Gandhi’s family
Gandhiji was married to Kasturba, the daughter of a merchant family of Porbandar. Kasturba was 6 months older than Mohandas.
A year later, Gandhiji became the father of a son. But this son of his did not survive for long. Later Kasturba and Gandhiji had four sons, whose names were Harilal, Manilal, Ramlal, and Devdas. Gandhiji went abroad to study after marriage, from where he came back after studying law. Bapu returned home and took part in the freedom struggle. During this, Kasturba kept supporting him.
Gandhi was great
Once upon a time, when Mahatma Gandhi was traveling by train. During that time one of Mahatma Gandhi’s shoes fell from the train, then Gandhiji threw out the other shoe too. Seeing this, a person sitting on the train asked him why did you throw away other shoes, then Gandhiji said that one shoe will not work for him. Even if someone gets this shoe, it will not work for him. If that person gets both shoes, then it can be useful for him.
Gandhiji’s Movement
In 1906, Mahatma Gandhi launched the first Satyagraha against the Transvaal Asiatic Registration Act.
Gandhi launched the Salt Satyagraha on 12 March 1930 against the British monopoly on salt, in which he marched for 24 days from Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to Dandi village.
For the independence of the country, ‘Dalit Movement’, ‘Non-Cooperation Movement’, ‘Civil Disobedience Movement, ‘Dandi Yatra’, and ‘Quit India Movement’ were started.

- Mahatma Gandhi was first called the ‘Father of the Nation’ by Subhash Chandra Bose.
- Gandhiji sold his autographs for five ₹5-5 to help the Bhagalpur earthquake victims in 1934.
- There are a total of 101 big roads in the name of Mahatma Gandhi in the country and abroad. Of these, 53 roads are in the country and 48 roads are abroad.
- Gandhiji never boarded a flight in his lifetime. Whenever he traveled abroad, he did it through the sea route.
- Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead on 30 January 1948, 10 lakh people were involved in all his travels. At the same time, about 15 lakh people were standing in the way to pay tribute.
Mahatma Gandhi had great reverence for Lord Shri Ram. When he was shot, the last word that came out of his mouth was ‘Hey Ram’.
