New Delhi: Today is the 200th birthday of French painter Rosa Bonheur. On this special occasion, Google has made a special doodle. Rosa Bonheur’s successful career inspired future generations of women in the arts. Today Google is celebrating the 200th birthday of Rosa Bonheur in a unique way.

Rosa Bonheur was born on 16 March 1822 in Bordeaux, France. He learned the art of drawing from his father. However, Rosa’s aspirations to pursue a career in the arts were unconventional for women of the time. He spent years doing careful study and trying to make sketches.

Bonheur’s reputation as an animal painter and sculptor dates back to the 1840s. Many of his works were exhibited at the prestigious Paris Salon from 1841 to 1853. In 1853, Bonheur gained international fame with his painting “The Horse Fair”, which depicted a horse market held in Paris. As his best-known work, this painting is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

To honor this famous painting, the French Empress Eugenie awarded Bonheur the Legion of Honor, one of the country’s most prestigious awards, in 1865.
