New Delhi: India on Thursday rejected a resolution passed in the Parliament of the European Union on the status of Manipur, terming it inspired by the colonial mindset. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that such interference in India’s internal affairs is unacceptable.

Arindam Bagchi said, “We have seen that the current situation in Manipur was discussed in the Parliament of the European Union and a so-called urgent resolution was passed. This kind of interference in India’s internal affairs is unacceptable and reflects the colonial mindset.

The MEA spokesperson said Indian authorities at all levels, including the judiciary, are aware of the situation in Manipur and are taking necessary steps to maintain peace, harmony, and law and order. Responding to reporters’ questions regarding the proposal, he said, “The EU Parliament would be well advised to use its time more productively on its internal issues.”

Earlier, the European Union Parliament on Thursday passed a resolution on the human rights situation in India regarding the recent violence in Manipur. Significantly, violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities has been going on in Manipur for the last two months.
