Philadelphia: At least eight people were injured in a firing on Wednesday near a ‘transit station’ in North Philadelphia, one of which is in critical condition. Police said the shooting incident occurred near the southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority station (SEPTA) in Olney at around 3pm local time. The 71-year-old man injured in the shooting is in critical condition, with one bullet in his stomach and several bullets in his leg.
Police said a 22-year-old man was shot in the back, 21-year-old and 53-year-old people in the leg, a 36-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man in the thigh. At the same time, a 17-year-old girl has a right hand injury. He said that a 48-year-old man later rushed to the hospital and suffered a stomach injury. The condition of her and all the other injured is stable.
Police said that two weapons have been recovered and one person has been detained. Commissioner of Police Daniel Outlaw said that it is not yet clear whether the seized weapons were used in this incident or not. He said, “We have detained one person.” The identity of the person detained has not been revealed.
Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement, “This day-to-day incident is a sad example of rogue, ruthless and gun violence that threatens the lives and safety of our Philadelphia colleagues.” Investigating the matter, we are committed to making our roads safe for all of us.
