According to the National Center for Seismology on the matter, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in Hokkaido, Japan at 1448 hours. Significantly, even before this, on February 25, strong tremors were felt in Hokkaido, Japan. Even then the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 6.1 on the Richter scale.
Then according to the United Nations Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred on Nemuro Island at a depth of 61 km. According to Japanese officials on the matter, the tremors were felt at 10.27 pm local time.
