Washington: US President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize as a peace agreement between the UAE and Israel. According to Fox News’ M report, Donald Trump’s nomination has been done by Christian Taibring Gajedde of the Norwegian Parliament. Christian Taibring is the chairman of the Norway division and is part of the NATO parliamentary assembly. In addition to Christian Taibring, there are four more nominations. The news comes just a few weeks after US President Donald Trump signed a deal between the UAE-Israel.
Reconciliation between the two countries took place in August 2020
In August 2020, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel made a historic agreement, forgetting decades-old rivalry. US President Donald Trump played a role in this agreement. Under the agreement, Israel agreed to give up its claim in the West Bank area of Palestine. At the same time, the UAE agreed to restore full diplomatic relations with Israel. It became the first Gulf country to do so.
‘Trump’s effort for peace is less appreciated’
Quoting Christian Taibring, Fox News said, “I understand that the nomination of the Peace Prize is not enough for the efforts made by Donald Trump to reconcile between the two countries.”
Norway’s Christian Taibring nominated Trump
Taibring is a four-time member of Norway’s parliament and is part of NATO’s parliamentary assembly. He credited Trump for playing an important role in establishing better relations between the UAE and Israel.
Trump praised for recalling troops from Middle East
He told Fox News that Trump, more than others nominated for the Nobel Prize, has tried to establish peace between the countries. Taibring also praised Trump for recalling a large number of soldiers from the Middle East.
In the nomination letter for Trump, Taibring wrote, “As expected of other Middle Eastern countries to follow in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates, the agreement could be a game changer that will transform the Middle East into a field of cooperation and prosperity.”
