New Delhi: Aviation regulator DGCA has removed SpiceJet from its enhanced surveillance regime. A senior official gave this information on Tuesday. The airline, facing headwinds, was recently put under enhanced surveillance. The senior DGCA official said SpiceJet was put under enhanced surveillance in view of the inadequate maintenance and the incidents during last year’s monsoon.
As such, 51 checks of the Boeing 737 and Bombardier DHC Q-400 fleet were carried out at 11 locations across India, the official said. A total of 23 aircraft were inspected during this period. DGCA teams made 95 comments. He said the findings were general in nature and were not considered significant by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“The airline has taken appropriate action on the comments as per DGCA guidelines, due to which SpiceJet has been removed from DGCA’s enhanced surveillance regime,” the official said. Earlier, PTI had reported on July 11 that the DGCA has placed SpiceJet under an enhanced surveillance regime. The news was denied by the airline that day.
When contacted, a SpiceJet spokesperson had said, “The information is absolutely false and is strongly denied.”
