New Delhi: The havoc of heavy rains is continuing in many states of India for the last three days. More than 50 people have died and many are missing in flash floods and landslides triggered by intense monsoon rains in northern and eastern India. At least 50 people have died in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha in three days, news agency Reuters reported. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains will continue in the region for the next two days.
Five people who went missing after flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh could not be traced even on Sunday, a senior official told news agency PTI. 22 people died and 12 were injured in rain-related incidents in the state on Saturday. The maximum damage has come from Mandi, Kangra, and Chamba districts.
- In Himachal Pradesh, 36 people have died due to heavy rains in the last three days while many are missing. Hundreds of people are taking shelter in relief camps due to the floods.
- Four people died and 13 went missing due to a cloudburst in Uttarakhand on Saturday. In this incident, the rivers broke the banks due to which some houses were washed away.
- 6 people died amidst torrential rains in Odisha. About 8 lakh people have been affected by the floods in the state and thousands have been displaced from their homes. The rain has disrupted the power supply and damaged roads.
- The water level in all the rivers located in northern Odisha is in spate due to the release of flood water from the Galudih barrage in Jharkhand due to heavy rainfall caused by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
- Five people were washed away in the water of the overflowing Nalkari river in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Saturday. Madhavi Mishra, an official of the Ramgarh district said that four bodies have been recovered so far.
