New Delhi: Full emergency was declared at the Delhi airport after a FedEx flight bound for Dubai collided with a bird soon after take-off. The officials of Delhi airport gave this information. According to sources, this step was taken so that the aircraft could land at the Delhi airport and the technical experts could check for any technical fault in the aircraft before giving permission to fly again. During this, emergency services like ambulance, fire brigade were also deployed at Delhi airport. Sources said bird hits are not uncommon, but they present huge technical challenges.

This type of collision of birds can prove to be fatally dangerous for the planes. Due to this many times serious plane accidents also happen. Dense human population around the airport is a major reason for the increase of such incidents. Flying birds often collide with planes while trying to get food from humans. Significantly, in February, an IndiGo flight from Surat to Delhi had to be diverted to Ahmedabad after hitting a bird during takeoff. Confirming the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had said that the aircraft had landed safely in Ahmedabad.
