New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a holiday on September 8, 9, and 10 given the G-20 Summit being held in the city. The decision was taken after the Delhi Police recommended it to the government. The Special Commissioner of Delhi Police had written a letter to the Chief Secretary. The holiday will apply to all the offices of the Delhi Government, MCD, and government schools. Moreover, due to VIP movement, many routes will be affected by restrictions.
Special Commissioner of Traffic Police SS Yadav said that from midnight of September 7, there will be no entry into the Delhi area and other restricted or security zones. Only vehicles carrying essential goods will be allowed entry from the border. Trucks of milk, vegetables, ration, medicines, and petroleum products will be permitted. DTC buses will be diverted or terminated near the New Delhi area. Interstate buses will also be stopped at Ghazipur, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar. Interstate buses from Haryana and Rajasthan will also be halted at the Rajokri border only.
Banks will also be closed, but metro service will be available
All private offices and institutions in Delhi will also remain shut during this period. Banks and financial institutions in the New Delhi district of Delhi Police will also be closed. Shops and business establishments will also be closed as per the map prepared by the Delhi Police’s New Delhi district. During the G-20 Summit, the metro can be used as an alternative to road transport. People have been advised to use the metro for places like airports, railway stations, bus stands, and hospitals. Some metro stations like Supreme Court, Khan Market, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat may remain closed.
