Delhi Airport world’s 9th busiest airport in 2022, handled over 59.4 million passengers: ACI

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGAI) in the national capital has been ranked ninth among the busiest airports in the world in 2022. According to data released by the Airports Council International (ACI), the airport handled over 59.4 million passengers during this period.

ACI said that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (93.7 million passengers) topped the world’s 10 busiest airports in 2022. It was followed by Dallas Fort Worth Airport (73.4 million passengers), Denver Airport (69.3 million passengers), and Chicago O’Hare Airport (68.3 million passengers).

In a statement released on Wednesday, ACI said, “Dubai Airport in fifth place (+66.1 million passengers, +127 percent), Istanbul Airport in seventh place (64.3 million passengers, +73.8 percent), Heathrow in London in eighth place among the busiest airports.” Airports, Delhi’s IGI Airport at the ninth position and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at the 10th position.

IGAI operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said in another release that Delhi airport is the only airport in South and South-East Asia to feature in the top 10 busiest airports. According to the release, “Delhi airport has improved from 17th ranking in 2019 and 13th in 2021. As per the ACI report, Delhi Airport is expected to handle more than 5.94 crore passengers in 2022.
