New Delhi: Russia is continuously attacking Ukraine. Meanwhile, sad news has come to the fore. An Indian student lost his life during a gunfight in Kharkiv, Ukraine on Tuesday morning. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a tweet that, this morning an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv. The ministry is in touch with his family.
The ministry tweeted, “With extreme sadness, we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in a gunfight in Kharkiv this morning.” The ministry said it is in touch with the student’s family. It said we express our deepest condolences to the family. Many Indians are still trapped in Kharkiv where Russia has launched a major military offensive. The Foreign Ministry said that the Foreign Secretary is talking to the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine in which he will reiterate India’s demand for “immediate safe passage for Indian nationals who are still stuck in conflict zones in Kharkiv and other cities”. Similar actions are also being taken by our ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine, it said.
According to a report in the Indian Express, the student killed in Ukraine has been identified as 20-year-old Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar from Karnataka. He was a fourth-year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University in Kharkiv. The report quoted a student residing in Naveen’s hostel as saying, “Naveen was murdered around 10.30 am Ukrainian time today. He was standing in a queue in front of a grocery store when the firing took place. We have no information about his dead body. Neither of us was in a position to go to the hospital.
After the news of the death of Naveen Shekharappa, a student of the Haveri district of Karnataka, CM Bommai has spoken to Naveen’s father. Karnataka CMO has said that every effort will be made to bring Naveen’s body back to India. The CM said that talks are being held with the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs in this matter.
The Embassy of India has issued a fresh advisory for Indian citizens present in Kyiv. In this advisory, the Embassy has advised that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine has sent Indians to leave Kyiv immediately today.
