Dharamshala: On the 75th anniversary of the dropping of atomic bombs on two Japanese cities – Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Dalai Lama urged governments, organizations and people to work for a peaceful and military-free world. He said in a statement that despite many great developments during the 20th century, it was also an era of violence in which around 200 million people died. During that time nuclear weapons were also used fiercely.

Now, in a world of increasing dependence, we have a chance to make it a more peaceful century. He said that on the 75th anniversary of the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he urged governments, organizations and people to rededicate themselves to the achievement of peace in their lives. He said that the situation of confrontation should be resolved through negotiation and force should not be used.
We need to eliminate the menace of nuclear weapons and its ultimate objective is to create a demilitarized world. He said that war means murder. Violence produces violence. We need to create a peaceful world preventing arms production.
