Mumbai: A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai (Mumbai) has asked the US to help the agency in the investigation against Vijay Mallya in a multi-crore bank fraud case. A ‘Letter of Request’ (LOR) is issued. The CBI had filed an application for this after which Special Judge Jayendra C. Jagdale had issued the LOR.

The CBI said that it needs some new evidence from the US and permission from the US Attorney General to use some of the evidence it has received. LOR is a formal correspondence conducted by a court from a foreign court and the relevant judicial authority in cases in which investigations and judicial proceedings are pending.

The CBI had recently moved the special court to issue an LOR to investigate what purposes the funds received in the bank accounts of Mallya and Kingfisher Airlines in the US were used. The investigating agency also requested to collect evidence related to these bank accounts.

The CBI told the court that its investigation in India showed that after obtaining loans from IDBI Bank, State Bank of India and other ‘consortiums’ of banks, the accused used the sanctioned amount for other purposes. . Accepting the CBI’s request, Judge Jagdale ordered the Attorney General of Washington DC to issue a letter of request on Monday.
