New Delhi: King of India and the world’s oldest tiger died on Monday. Officials of SKB Rescue Center said that Raja died at the age of 26. Raja Bagh was kept at the Tiger Rehabilitation Center in Alipurduar, West Bengal. Officials said Raja was one of the longest-living tigers in the country.

Royal Bengal Tiger Raja’s age was 26 years 10 months 18 days and he was about to celebrate his 27th birthday on 23 August. But 40 days before his birthday, he said goodbye to the world. The forest department had also made preparations for the next birthday of the king.

According to the SKB rescue center, the tiger king died around 3 am on Monday. Forest department officials said that due to old age, the king was not eating food for the past few days. After Raja’s death, Alipurduar District Magistrate Surendra Kumar Meena, Forest Directorate officer Deepak M and Forest Department officials paid tribute to the Royal Bengal Tiger Raja.

Forest department officials said that Raja was caught in an injured condition by the Sundarbans in 2006. He was later sent to the Tiger Rehabilitation Center in Alipurduar, West Bengal. This is where it was treated. According to the department, while crossing the Matala river in the Sundarbans, the king was attacked by a crocodile in which he was seriously injured.

District Magistrate Surendra Kumar Meena told that the tiger king was also ill for the last few days and he had also stopped drinking food a few days ago. Raja’s post-mortem has been done, whose report is awaited.
