New Delhi: The festive season of Diwali has brought a big shock to the common man as petroleum companies have hiked the price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinders for the second consecutive month from November 1. This comes after a slight decline in the price of gas cylinders in September.

According to the website of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the oil marketing companies have increased the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 101.50 across the country. This means that the commercial gas cylinder, which is used by hotels, restaurants, and industries, will now cost more.

The new price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders in the four metro cities of the country from today are as follows:

  • In Delhi, it will be available for Rs 1,833, which was earlier available for Rs 1,731.
  • In Mumbai, it will be available for Rs 1,785.50, which was earlier available for Rs 1,684.
  • In Kolkata, it will be available for Rs 1,943, which was earlier available for Rs 1,839.50.
  • In Chennai, it will be available for Rs 1,999.50, which was earlier available for Rs 1,898.

The increase in the price of commercial gas cylinders is likely to affect the business of small and medium enterprises, especially in the hospitality sector, which is already struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

However, there is no change in the price of domestic gas cylinders. The last change in the price of domestic gas cylinders was seen on August 30, when the Modi government reduced the price of 14.2 kg cylinders by Rs 200 across the country. After this cut, the domestic gas cylinder price reached Rs 903 in Delhi. Households use domestic gas cylinders for cooking purposes.

The price of LPG cylinders is determined by factors such as international crude oil prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and tax rates. The oil marketing companies revise the prices of LPG cylinders every month based on these factors.
