Beijing: The Communist Party of China on Saturday strongly criticized the Global Summit for Democracy to be hosted by US President Joe Biden next week. Questioned democracy while praising the merits of its governance system. Party functionaries questioned how a polarized country could lecture others.
He said efforts to force others to imitate the Western democratic model had “failed miserably”. Tian Peiyan, deputy director of the party’s Office of Policy Research, said the pandemic had exposed the flaws in the American system. He blamed political controversies and a divided government from upper to lower levels for the death of a large number of people from Covid-19 in America. “This type of democracy does not bring happiness to the voters but destruction,” Peinya told a press conference.
He released a government report detailing what the Communist Party calls its form of democracy. Biden has invited around 110 governments to a two-day digital “Summit for Democracy” beginning Thursday. China and Russia have not received this invitation.
