Beijing: China launched the world’s largest population on Sunday. In the most populous country, it is done once in a decade. For the seventh census of the country, about 70 lakh census workers will go door-to-door and survey. It is noteworthy that in the census conducted 10 years ago, the population of China was recorded as 1.37 billion.
Ning Jizhe, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, said during a video conference to encourage national census work that the census is important to understand the size, structure and distribution of the population. According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, the census will collect data on Chinese nationals’ names, ID numbers, gender, marital status, education and occupation. Significantly, after implementing the ‘one-child’ policy, China was facing a demographic crisis as a large part of its population was aging. Therefore, China has allowed people to have a second child since 2016.
