About 4 million tons of rice is bought from Beijing every year. But despite India being the largest exporter of rice, rice was not imported from India by China. Improving the quality of rice
However, now China has said that the quality of India’s rice has improved significantly. Therefore, China has indicated its readiness to buy rice from India. BV Krishna Rao, President, Rice Export Association, said that China expects to import more rice from India in the near future.
Agreement to export 1 lakh tonnes of rice
Indian traders have agreed to export 1 lakh tonnes of rice to China for the months of December-February. So far, China has been importing rice from Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Pakistan. Significantly, China was buying rice from these countries at $ 30 per tonne more than India.
