Beijing: Sperm Donation in China can be a good source of income for students studying in universities in China. At the same time, it can also contribute to combating China’s declining fertility rate. Several sperm donation clinics across China, including in Beijing and Shanghai, have recently appealed to university students to donate sperm.
State media reports claimed that an appeal to donate sperm in China has become a trending topic on China’s Twitter-like social media platform Weibo, where users are discussing the issue. Threads on this issue have been viewed over 240 million times this week.
Among the first to appeal to university students for sperm donation was the Yunnan Human Sperm Bank in southwest China on 2 February. In this announcement, information about the benefits of donation, registration conditions, subsidy, and initiation of sperm donation procedures was given. This prompted other sperm banks in other provinces and cities in China to make similar appeals.
These conditions were kept for sperm donation
The state-run tabloid, Global Times, said in a report on Friday, “Sperm banks have issued similar appeals in other places, including Shaanxi (province) in northwest China. It has since aroused public interest and heated discussion as China’s population is set to decline in 2022 for the first time in six decades.
Different sperm banks have different requirements for people who want to donate.
According to the Sperm Bank of Yunnan, donors must be between 20 and 40, must be over 165 cm tall, must not have any infectious or genetic diseases, and must have either a degree or a degree. Must be studying.
The GT report states, “Donors will have to undergo a medical examination and those who are eligible and donate 8-12 times will be paid a subsidy of 4,500 yuan ($664). ,
The Shaanxi Sperm Bank requires donors to be at least 168 cm tall and the subsidy given to them for donation will be 5,000 yuan ($734). While a sperm bank in Shanghai has offered the highest subsidy of 7,000 yuan ($1000). Along with this, the most stringent conditions have also been kept. These include not being bald, being a smoker or consuming alcohol, and suffering from severe myopia and high blood pressure.
The population is decreasing in China
China’s population recorded negative growth for the first time in 61 years, shrinking by 850,000 in January 2022, according to official data released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The official news agency Xinhua reported in January that the number of newborns in China has decreased for five consecutive years since 2017, after reaching 18.83 million in 2016, according to the NBS.
China scrapped its decades-old one-child policy in 2015, allowing all couples to have two children, and followed in 2021 by allowing couples to have a third child. However, despite the government’s initiative, the change in policy has not had any significant effect so far.
