New Delhi: Charanjit Singh Channi will be the new Chief Minister of Punjab. The Congress high command has taken this decision with the unanimous consent of the MLAs. Shortly before, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had informed that this decision has been taken after the meeting of the observers with the MLAs. Charanjit Singh Channi will go to meet the Governor at 6.30 pm. It is believed that Charanjit Singh Channi may ask for time to meet the Governor on Monday (September 20).

Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat gave information about Charanjit Singh Channi becoming CM by tweeting. Till some time ago, the name of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was going ahead, but on the last occasion, Channi’s name was announced.

Who is Charanjit Singh Channi?
Charanjit Singh Channi is a Congress MLA from Chamkaur Sahib seat in the state. He comes from the Dalit community. Charanjit Singh Channi has been a staunch opponent of Captain Amarinder Singh.

Punjab’s nominated Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi after meeting the Governor said, “We have presented our stand before the Governor with the support of party MLAs. The swearing-in ceremony will be held tomorrow at 11 am.”

Meanwhile, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi congratulated the new Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and said that the promises made to the people of the state have to be continued to be fulfilled. He tweeted on his official Twitter account, “Congratulations to Charanjit Singh Channi Ji on the new assignment. We have to continue to fulfill the promises made to the people of Punjab. Trust is the most important thing.”
