New Delhi: The CBI has issued a summons to former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik. The investigating agency called him for questioning on 28 April. Recently, in an interview with The Wire’s Karan Thapar, he made several revelations about national security and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach toward corruption.
According to reports, the questioning will be related to the Reliance Insurance case, in which BJP leader Ram Madhav was allegedly involved. Madhav had pressured Satya Pal Malik to authorize the scheme during his tenure as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
What was said
On October 17, 2021, in a program in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, Satyapal Malik said, ‘After going to Kashmir, two files came to me. One was Ambani’s file and the other was of a person associated with the RSS who was a minister in the previous coalition government of Mehbooba Mufti and the BJP. He was also very close to PM Modi. I was informed by the secretaries that there was a scam in it and then I canceled both deals in turn. The secretaries told me that Rs 150 crore each would be given for both files. But, I told them that I have come with five kurta-pajama and will leave with only that.

Former Governor Satya Pal Malik after being summoned by the CBI said that the CBI has asked him to come to his Delhi office on April 27 or 28 to give an explanation regarding the alleged insurance scam in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP leader Ram Madhav sent a defamation notice
It is notable that Satyapal Malik had said in an interview with The Wire on April 14 that Ram Madhav had reached his house the very next morning after he canceled the plan of Reliance Insurance and asked him questions about the plan. According to Malik, Madhav was upset when he was told that he had canceled it. The former Jammu and Kashmir governor had also mentioned the incident in an interview given to journalist Prashant Tandon before The Wire’s interview. After its telecast, Madhav sent a defamation notice to Malik.
In October 2021, for the first time, Malik alleged that during his tenure as governor, an attempt was made to bribe him to the tune of Rs 300 crore for a deal. In an interview with Tandon, he said the ‘RSS functionary’ Ram Madhav was more interested in the deal. Malik told that he had rejected the offer for which he was offered Rs 300 crore as a bribe. Malik claimed that Ram Madhav reached the Raj Bhavan at 7 am a day after the resolution was rejected. According to Malik, the RSS leader was very upset and asked, ‘Where will such investment come from?’ I said, ‘Whether the investment comes or not, I will not do anything wrong.’
