Beijing: Charging anxiety for electric vehicle (EV) owners may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to BYD’s revolutionary new Super e-Platform. The Chinese EV giant has unveiled a groundbreaking charging technology capable of delivering 400 kilometers of range in just five minutes effectively matching the time it takes to refuel a petrol car. This innovation, announced by BYD founder Wang Chuanfu at an event in Shenzhen, is set to redefine global EV standards.

How BYD’s Super e-Platform Works

The heart of this innovation lies in its 1,000 kW charging capacity, which is twice as fast as Tesla’s latest Superchargers (500 kW). The platform uses BYD’s redesigned Blade batteries with a 10C charging multiplier, enabling rapid energy absorption while maintaining safety and efficiency. With a 1,000 V architecture and 1,000 A current, the system can add up to 2 kilometers of range per second.

This cutting-edge technology will debut in BYD’s Han L EV sedan and Tang L EV SUV, both of which are set to launch in April 2025. These vehicles boast a high-voltage system and support ultra-fast charging speeds, making them pioneers in the EV market.

Performance Highlights: Han L EV and Tang L EV

The Han L EV and Tang L EV models are designed for performance enthusiasts. Both vehicles can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just two seconds, rivaling the fastest sports cars on the market. Equipped with an 83.2 kWh Blade battery, these models promise not only speed but also efficiency and durability. Their prices range between ₹32 lakh and ₹42 lakh (RMB 270,000–350,000), making them competitive options for premium EV buyers.

BYD’s Infrastructure Expansion: Over 4,000 Charging Stations

To support this game-changing technology, BYD plans to install over 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China. These stations will include energy storage solutions to ensure consistent performance even in areas with limited grid capacity. This extensive network aims to alleviate range anxiety and make long-distance travel more convenient for EV users.

Impact on Global EV Market

BYD’s innovation has positioned it firmly ahead of competitors like Tesla in the race for EV supremacy. While Tesla’s Superchargers offer up to 275 km of range in 15 minutes, BYD’s new system delivers nearly double that range in just five minutes. This breakthrough could significantly accelerate global adoption of electric vehicles by addressing one of the biggest barriers—charging time.

A Leap Toward Sustainable Mobility

With this announcement, BYD has not only showcased its technological prowess but also highlighted its commitment to revolutionizing sustainable transportation. The company sold over 4 million vehicles globally in 2023 and continues to dominate China’s new energy vehicle market with a 32% share.

As the Han L EV and Tang L EV prepare for their April launch, BYD’s Super e-Platform is set to transform how we perceive electric mobility bringing us closer than ever to a future where charging an electric car is as quick and seamless as refueling a gasoline vehicle.
