Jabalpur: Diamond Mine Mining Company on 364 hectare land of Bakswaha in Chhatarpur district of MP has got a big setback from Jabalpur High Court. The Jabalpur High Court has ordered the Central Government, the State Government, and the ASI to submit a reply, putting an immediate ban on mining.

Rock painting more than 25 thousand years old
After a survey by the Archaeological Survey of India in July 2021, the world came to know that there are rock paintings of more than 25 thousand years old in Buxwaha. These are being told of the medieval period of the Stone Age. Excavation is to be done for the diamond mine at this place. Against this, a petition has been filed in the High Court. The petitioner had raised the demand that till no steps are taken for the protection of this archaeological property, the mining should be stopped immediately.

Challenge the decision of the government
According to the information, a private company has been given mining permission for a diamond mine in an area of 364 hectares of forest under Sogoria village in Buxwaha of Chhatarpur district. The petitioner has challenged this decision of the government. According to him, allowing diamond mining in such an area is wrong in many respects. First of all, the order of “Sustainable Development” of the Supreme Court and NGT has been ignored. There is even an earlier order of the NGT which clearly shows that compensatory forestation is mandatory on twice the forest area of the forest land that is diverted. But this has been ignored by the Collector Chhatarpur.

This would be a loss
The opening of the diamond mine will also affect about 8000 forest dwellers living there. The government has not made any plan for their rehabilitation. There can even be a huge wildlife disbalance. This will affect the ecology somewhere. The great thing is that due to the construction of the mine, the water sources of the forest land will suffer a lot. That is, making a mine in such an area full of natural wealth in the dense forest is a deal of loss in every way.
