Mumbai: The Cyber Police of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a youth from Odisha on Thursday in the Bulli Bai App case. An official gave this information. On this app, pictures of Muslim women were put up for ‘auction’ and they were targeted.
The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Neeraj Singh, who holds an MBA degree, the official said. According to the police, Neeraj along with the main accused had planned to build the app. “Neeraj’s role came to the fore in the interrogation of the accused arrested earlier in the case. After interrogation, a team of the cyber police station was sent to Odisha for his arrest.
He told that Neeraj is being brought to Mumbai, where he will be produced in a court. With the arrest of Neeraj, the Mumbai Police has so far arrested a total of four accused in the Bully by App case. Prior to that, Shweta Singh (18) and Mayank Rawal (21) were arrested from Uttarakhand, while engineering student Vishal Kumar Jha (21) was arrested from Bengaluru.
Neeraj Bishnoi, who was allegedly one of the main conspirators in the Bulli Bai app case, was arrested by the Delhi Police from Assam. The Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against an unidentified accused after complaints emerged that hundreds of Muslim women’s photographs were morphed and put up for ‘auction’ on the ‘Bulli Bai’ app on open-source software platform ‘GitHub’.
While no actual ‘auction’ or ‘sale’ was done on the app, it is believed that the main purpose of its creation was to intimidate and humiliate the targeted women.
