New Delhi: The matter of lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab has reached the Supreme Court. Now it is reported that the Center is contemplating taking action against the officers of Punjab Police under the Special Protection Group (SPG) Act. On Wednesday, PM Modi’s convoy was stuck on a flyover 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial located at Hussainiwala. During that time PM Modi’s Ferozepur program was canceled, under which he was going to lay the foundation stone of projects worth more than 42 thousand crores.

According to the Indian Express report, the Center is preparing to take action against the officials under the provisions of the SPG Act. According to sources, due to this, the responsible officers can also be summoned to Delhi, or a central level inquiry can be started against them. However, the Punjab government had constituted a high-level committee to investigate the matter.

The report quoted the source as saying, “What happened in Punjab on Wednesday is in violation of the SPG Act as the PM failed to follow all the protocols laid down by the SPG for its activities. Things are going on. Action will be taken.’ The State Government is responsible under Section 14 of the SPG Act for providing all assistance to the SPG during the activities of the PM.

In December 2020, the convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress workers. During that time, the Center had called three police officers posted in Nadda’s security to Delhi on deputation. The names of these officers included IG Rajeev Mishra of South Bengal Range, DIG Praveen Tripathi, and SP Bholanath Pandey of North 24 Parganas. Even during that time, the Home Ministry had sought a report from the Chief Secretary and the DGP and summoned Delhi.
