Washington: Amid efforts by Democratic lawmakers to protect his program and a related public works bill by reducing the amount of a massive $3,500 billion US spending package, US President Joe Biden acknowledged Saturday that the bill would not pass. Cause everyone is desperate.
“Everybody is desperate,” Biden told reporters before leaving the White House to stay at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware, over the weekend. All this happens when you are in government.” Biden vowed he would “work tirelessly” to get two pillars of his domestic agenda passed into law, but did not set a deadline. The president went to Capitol Hill on Friday for a private meeting with Democratic members of the House of Representatives to boost morale. Lawmakers present at the meeting said Biden discussed amounts ranging from $1,900 billion to $2,000 billion for a large package that would strengthen the country’s social security.
Biden said he would tour the country soon to gather support for the bill. He resolved to make more efforts to make people aware of the new and expanded programs of the scheme. He claimed that his program has the support of a large number of voters. The bill aims to advance the social security net and climate programs over the next ten years. It’s an important time for Biden and the party. Biden’s popularity ratings have plummeted and Democratic leaders are desperate to fulfill Biden’s important promise of rebuilding the country.
Democratic Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia stuck to his call for a smaller package of about $1,500 billion on Thursday, dashing Biden’s hopes of an early consensus on the bill’s outline. Due to non-agreement on this bill, the Public Works Bill related to it was also obstructed. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi told her party lawmakers that “more time is needed” for this massive package to take shape.
