New Delhi: In a major push to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the Indian government is set to launch a comprehensive digital super app designed to streamline the entire EV experience. This all-in-one platform aims to simplify the purchase, charging, and financing of electric vehicles, making EV ownership more accessible and user-friendly across the country.

BHEL Named as Nodal Agency for Super App Rollout

The government has entrusted Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a leading public sector enterprise, with the responsibility of developing and implementing this ambitious super app. BHEL will serve as the nodal agency, coordinating with various state governments and ministries to ensure a seamless nationwide rollout.

Key Features of the Upcoming EV Super App

The super app is poised to become a game-changer for EV users, offering a host of integrated features, including:

  • Real-Time Charging Slot Booking: Users can reserve charging slots at their convenience, reducing wait times and ensuring hassle-free charging.
  • Charger Availability Information: The app will provide up-to-date information on available charging stations, helping users plan their routes efficiently.
  • Digital Payment Integration: Secure, cashless payment options will be built in, making transactions quick and easy.
  • Dashboard Tracking (PM E-Drive Scheme): Users can monitor their vehicle’s charging status and usage history through an intuitive dashboard.
  • Centralized Coordination: The app will facilitate coordination with central and state government agencies, streamlining EV-related processes and approvals.

Nationwide Charging Network Expansion

As part of the Prime Minister’s E-Drive Scheme, the government has greenlit the installation of approximately 72,000 public EV charging stations across India. These stations will be strategically located along 50 major National Highway corridors, high-traffic metropolitan areas, toll plazas, airports, and railway stations. The initiative is backed by a substantial budget allocation of Rs 2,000 crore.

BHEL’s Technological Edge

BHEL’s extensive experience in manufacturing power equipment and electric locomotives for Indian Railways positions it perfectly to lead this digital transformation. Leveraging its technical expertise, BHEL will not only develop the super app but also assess proposals for new EV charging infrastructure and onboard charging network data from across the country.

A Big Step Towards a Greener Future

With this unified super app and a massive expansion of the charging network, India is taking a significant step towards making electric vehicles a mainstream choice for millions. The initiative promises to make EV ownership more convenient, affordable, and sustainable, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
