United Nations: Belarus claimed on Wednesday that around 100 Indian students were thrashed by security personnel deployed along the Polish border and sent back to Ukraine, after which they were sent to a refugee camp in Romania. Capt. Valentin Rybakov, Belarus’s ambassador to the United Nations, made the remarks while giving a statement to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
“Polish border guards beat up a group of about 100 Indian students on February 26 and deported them back to Ukraine, who were then kept in a refugee camp in Romania,” Rybakov said.
Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sergei Kislitsya, said an Indian civilian was killed and a Chinese was injured in a Russian military operation in his country. Kislitsya said, “Ukraine deeply regrets that an Indian student has been a victim of Russian army shelling in Kharkiv. We express our deepest condolences to India and the relatives of the victim.”
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Tuesday that around 8,000 Indians, mainly students, are stranded in Ukraine. India is evacuating its citizens from Ukraine’s western neighbors such as Romania, Hungary, and Poland through special flights, as Ukrainian airspace has been closed since February 24.
