Moscow: Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Russia on Monday amid the protests against his sixth term, hoping for debt and political support. Lukashenko met Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Sochi resort in the Black Sea.
Significantly, around 150,000 people took to the streets of the capital of Belarus on Sunday demanding the resignation of Lukashenko. Demonstrations have been going on against Lukashenko in Belarus since the second week of August. This is the sixth week of demonstrations. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 774 people were arrested for participating in the rally without permission in the capital Minsk and other cities on Sunday.
People participating in demonstrations in Belarus are protesting Lukashenko’s election for the sixth term on August 9 and accusing him of rigging the election. Lukashenko has described these performances as influenced by the West. At the same time, he has turned down the offer of the US and the European Union to talk to the opposition.
