Peshawar: A court in Pakistan lifted the ban on the popular Chinese application (APP) ‘Tiktok’, sharing video and ensuring the telecom authority of the country to ensure Ordered that “immoral content” not be uploaded on it. The Peshawar High Court ordered a ban on Tiktok over alleged “obscene content” on 11 March and it has been done for the second time in six months. The court lifted the ban on Thursday.
PHC Chief Justice Kaiser Rashid in his order directed the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) to be vigilant about uploading any obscene material on the app. The court adjourned the case till May 25 and directed the PTA authorities to file a detailed reply till the next hearing.
During the hearing, Rashid asked the PTA official what steps the authority has taken to remove “unethical content” from the platform. PTA Director General Tariq Gandapur told the court that Tiktok has been approached to ensure that those sharing obscene material are blocked. This app has been downloaded about 39 million times in Pakistan.
