New Delhi: In a historic moment for Indian cricket, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh became the first Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in Men’s T20 Internationals. The 26-year-old achieved this landmark feat during India’s final group stage match of the Asia Cup 2025 against Oman on Friday. The milestone came in his 64th T20I appearance when he dismissed Oman’s Vinayak Shukla in the final over of the match.

India Secures Victory Over Spirited Oman

Playing their first match of the tournament, Arshdeep’s record-breaking moment capped off a hard-fought 21-run victory for Team India. After opting to bat first, India posted a competitive total of 188/8, largely thanks to a composed half-century from Sanju Samson (56 off 45 balls), with useful contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Axar Patel, and Tilak Varma.

Despite a valiant effort, Oman’s chase fell short as they managed to score 167 for 8. The win marked India’s third straight victory in the tournament, solidifying their position as they head into the Super Four stage.

A Record-Breaking Achievement

Arshdeep’s achievement places him in an exclusive club of just 25 bowlers worldwide who have crossed the 100-wicket mark in T20Is. He is not only the first Indian to reach this milestone but also the fastest pacer globally to do so, achieving the feat in just 64 matches.

Fastest to 100 T20I Wickets (Overall):

  • Rashid Khan (Afghanistan): 53 matches
  • Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal): 54 matches

Since his debut in July 2022, Arshdeep has been a consistent performer, particularly effective in the powerplay and death overs. His best figures in the format remain 4 for 9 against the USA during the 2024 T20 World Cup.
