Mumbai: Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic Media Network, was arrested by Raigarh police from his Mumbai home at 8 am. He has been arrested in a 2018 case of incitement to suicide. Arnab’s bail was heard in Alibag court till late at night. He was later remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. According to the judge, the police did not seek the court’s permission to resume the investigation of the case, which was closed in 2019. Arnab’s arrest is being widely condemned. With the exception of the three ruling parties in Maharashtra, all other parties, including the BJP, have strongly condemned the arrest. The Editors Guild of India and the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) have condemned the arrest of Arnab Goswami. In the case of suicide of an architect in Alibag, Raigad in May 2018, Raigad police reached Arnab’s house at 6.30 am on Wednesday. Police cordoned off the area before entering Arnab’s home, according to Republic TV. Police had weapons like AK-47 rifles in their hands.
His lawyer claims that at the time of his arrest, Arnab was grabbed by a belt and pulled and his spine was struck. One of his hands, which was already injured, was also struck. Arnab, who was sitting in the police van, also said that the police broke into his house and killed his son and did not allow him to meet his mother-in-law. After the arrest, Arnab was taken to Alibag police station in Raigarh. Arnab was produced in Alibag court at 5.30 pm. He could not get bail even after the hearing which lasted for about five hours. He was later remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

Police refused custody and the magistrate was remanded in custody. We have filed our bail application, it has been kept for debate. It will be decided tomorrow. “
