Army foils infiltration bid

Srinagar: In a major success for the security forces, five terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit were killed in an encounter on the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The army foiled an infiltration attempt by the terrorists who were trying to sneak into the Indian territory from across the border.

According to the Kashmir Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), the identity of the slain terrorists is being confirmed and the search operation is still ongoing. He tweeted, “Three (03) more terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) killed (total 05). The identity is being confirmed. The search operation is going on.”

The Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps also confirmed the incident and said that the troops displayed exemplary courage and professionalism in thwarting the infiltration bid. It posted on Twitter, “In an ongoing anti-infiltration operation in Machil sector of Kupwara district, alert troops braving inclement weather and hostile terrain have eliminated five terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the LoC.”

A police spokesperson said that the encounter started on the basis of specific information given by Kupwara Police. He said, “Based on specific information from Kupwara Police, terrorists have been killed in an encounter that started in the Machil sector. The campaign continues.”
