New Delhi: Apple’s first mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, has finally gone on sale in the US. The device was unveiled at the WWDC in June last year and has been one of the most anticipated products from the tech giant. The Vision Pro is a spatial computing device that combines virtual reality and augmented reality to create immersive experiences. Users can access apps in 3D in the real world and control them with their eyes and fingers.
The Vision Pro is available for purchase through Apple’s official website in the US. It comes in three storage variants: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The prices are $3,499 (approximately Rs 2,90,000), $3,699 (approximately Rs 3,06,500), and $3,899 (approximately Rs 3,22,000) respectively. The device is expected to launch in other countries later this year.
The Vision Pro is a sleek and lightweight headset that features 4K micro OLED displays with 23 million pixels combined, eye and gesture tracking for navigation and control, more than a dozen cameras, 3D photo and video capture, built-in spatial audio, Optic ID iris scanning, and visionOS operating system. The device also comes with an external battery that provides up to two hours of battery life and can be attached to the user’s belt or pocket. The box includes a Light Seal, a Light Seal Cushion, a Solo Knit Band, a Dual Loop Band, a Cover, a Battery, a Polishing Cloth, a 30W USB-C Power Adapter, and a USB-C Cable.
Apple has also announced a rich app ecosystem for the Vision Pro. According to the official blog post, Vision Pro users will have access to more than 1 million compatible apps available in app stores, including popular ones like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, and more. Apple has also revealed that more than 600 spatial apps and games will be available for download starting February 2 to take advantage of the Vision Pro hardware³. These apps will offer enhanced features and functionality for Vision Pro users, such as 3D graphics, spatial audio, eye and gesture control, and more.
For sports fans, apps like PGA Tour Vision and NBA will offer content on 100-foot screens enabled by ultra-high-resolution displays for each eye³. Users will be able to watch live matches, replays, highlights, and stats in stunning 3D. The list of other sports and entertainment apps also includes Red Bull TV, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, Apple TV, Disney + Hotstar, Discovery Max, ESPN, CBS, Paramount +, NBC, NBC Sports, Peacock, FOX Sports, and UFC. Users will be able to enjoy a variety of content, from documentaries and reality shows to movies and web series, on the Vision Pro.
