Mumbai: Former India bowler Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed this on Tuesday.

The Board said in a release, “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjpe interviewed the applicants for the position of a selector in the Men’s Selection Committee. The three-member CAC unanimously Shri Ajit Agarkar has been recommended for the said post.”

“The committee also recommended Mr. Agarkar for the role of chairman of the men’s selection committee on the basis of seniority (total number of Test matches),” the release said.

Agarkar represented India in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20 Internationals, apart from playing 110 first-class, 270 List-A, and 62 T20 matches. He was also a part of the Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007.

The record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batsman in ODI cricket is still held by Agarkar (21 balls). He also held the record for the fastest bowler to do so by taking 50 ODI wickets in just 23 matches, which he held for almost a decade.
